Eagle Commission in Final Stages

The more I paint this painting the more I fall in love with it. This commission for Mike & Pattie Callahan is now in the home stretch. When I designed this painting Mike Callahan mentioned he liked the shafts of light in the Soaring Eagle Comp in earlier posts. At the time I said that I thought it would be to much, but know I am thinking it is exactly what it needs! Tomorrow I will be doing some test paintings on a few colour copies to make sure I like the colour and position of the light shafts. I have uploaded a sample of what I have in mind, I will have to refine the light shafts so they are little more random and not so symmetrical. I will be filming the colour copy test painting and uploading it to my how to paint website in the near future so keep an eye out for it!

derekcwicks posted a photo: "Nu'thin Bruin" is the second piece I did of a Grizzly Cub that I had the opportunity to photograph in Alaska in 2006. My wife and I visited a wildlife rehabilitation farm were three orphaned Grizzly cubs shared an enclosement. It seems that the mother was shott and the cubs were left to fend for themselves. The rehabilitation centre has raising the cubs with the intent of re-release when they were big enough to defend themselves. I was lucky enough to spend the whole afternoon with them shooting over 200 photographs and finishing a couple of quick sketches. "Mischief's Bruin" was the first painting I did from the experience and can be viewed on my original art website. The two paintings are both 12x 12 and painted in acrylics on masonite.Both "Nu'thin Bruin" and "Mischief's Bruin" are owned by Fidel & Michelle Singh of Mississauga, ON. The location of the rehabilitation centre is marked by the location of this photo. I also used the fist image "mischief's Bruin" as an art instruction video on my Power To Paint website. the video is free and can be view by the public. The rehabilitation centre is also just north of Seward Alaska on the Seward Highway between Seward and Anchorage Alaska. Hope you enjoy the original!

derekcwicks posted a photo: This painting was a commissioned piece of art for Mike & Pattie Callahan of Rhode Island, USA. Mike & Pattie really liked a painting of mine named "Racing The Storm" and wanted to commission me to do a painting similar to that one. This painting started as simply a soaring eagle against a sunset sky in the background. As I produced more colour roughs for them I sensed that they would be open to an new direction, the eagle soaring over the Rockie mountains. After several colour roughs and a reference to an old painting I did for one of my how to paint videos called "Wings Of Pride" the stage was set to create the newest Derek C Wicks painting entitled " Surveying the Realm" The paint is in acrylics an is 24x16 in size and was painted on primed masonite. The original art can also be viewed on my wildlife art website. The mountains in the foreground are the range around Mount Denali in Alaska.
